Good day and salutations,
The rockbox team,(or lowlight in particular) has written " Hello World" the MR-100. Maybe further development is on the way. a link http://forums.rockbox.org/index.php?topic=5147.15
http://forums.rockbox.org/index.php?act ... 1856;image

Also someone might like to clean up the guys wiki who is working on the MR-500(linux) port, it is full of spam.(last time that I checked).
Update: the developer "low_light" has booted rockbox.

I used to be here since the beginning I think under the nickname "homie_lowe" or something but either I lost or forgot the password, I used to have a MR-100 but returned it because of my lack of patience. Currently the target (MR-100) doesn't have any button drivers yet but all hardware on the player has drivers written for it from other MP3 players (iPod mini etc.). http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/M ... Components
edit: for further updates I'd either head over to IRC, or check the logs, or even the development forum.

The spam on the wiki was cleaned up a few days ago, that's no longer an issue. This is an extremely interesting development however, hopefully we'll have a fully functional version of Rockbox not too far from now. That's definitely something I'd be willing to put on my m:robe.

homie, thanks for alerting us in the 1st place.

Can I invite you to adopt mr100/rockbox progress as your baby on this forum ie. keep us abreast of further developments and any how to's that get written? If you're too busy, let me know and one of us others can do it (I just joined that forum last night so don't have too much experience with the history of rockbox development).

lovelight would be verrrry welcome on this forum, i can make a formal invite etc, but is he too busy you think? thanks homie.

I bet with all the stuff done getting linux on there, it probably wouldn't be too hard.

Hmmm, good point bCat.

When it is fully useable on the mr100, it'll be interesting to see how easy it would be to install and use for PC-less-smarts (like me :idiotme: ) I just skimmed through the Rockbox manual for an iRiver, and wow, is it packed!. It's like 70-80 solid pages (OK, installation was like only half a page, phewwww...) of manual, all in english...Packed with a host of games, jpeg viewer (and yes plug-ins whatever, one of which yes....plays MPEG video files - still being perfected though) etc etc.

I think it'll take a bit more time for it to work with the mr500 bcos of the pure touchscreen element. Of course, there is no, none whatsoever pure touchscreen player out there of the 20 or so that have Rockbox manuals written for them, go here to see the manuals >>> http://www.rockbox.org/manual.shtml

I read before how, some said there were seemingly insurmountable obstacles to getting rockbox to the mr500. But who knows, maybe like bCat said, maybe shirour's team's work with the touchscreen functionality for Doom/Linux, may have made it a teeny bit more possible.

wow those rockbox guys are seeeeeeeriously clever electronica geeks (hats off). The contributors' page alone for the iRiver rockbox manual I read, ran to 2 solid pages of names at least, and some of the names are team names

Someone on here must have used rockbox before....but who?

(ahhh yes just checked the other rockbox topic... kezza said he has with the iRiver 340)

I have had Rockbox on my iPod 5G for more than a year. I will gladly mod this particular part of the forum. It is just not as simple as asking people to port rockbox. Its done 100% by people volunteering their free time. Ports to certain MP3 players is done by developers who have the target in question and an interest in porting the specific device. If you would like to port rockbox to the 500i I suggest you either read this http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/NewPort or you could contact them on IRC and either ask for help or arrange to mail them a 500i (working or broken). Also read the docs index http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/DocsIndex. I don't think it would really make a difference if low_light if joined this forum because he is the only rockbox developer working on the MR-100 port plus all rockbox related stuff should stay on their site. The dev's would probably laugh like they do at all those people with their magical "zune linux"( these people who say they have zune linux have no idea what they're talking about.
The first step would be writing a bootloader for the 500i, then device drivers for all its hardware. Rockbox is more for people who want a better firmware then the manufactures provided (Olympus) and not for those people who want the wow factor like gameboy games etc. Before asking any questions of rockbox nature I suggest reading up on some of the links I posted. I will keep up to date with posts in this forum.

if they make one for 500 i i will be happy to send my extra 500i to them if them brin it back in one piece. i even pay for the shippin. cause i see some cool stuff they did to other player and this may be the answer to video playin in the mrobe. and the firmware maybe more energy efficient then the 500i one.

i dont think i should do the askin im not a good talker. some one with program experience should do it. but i will send my extra 500i(workin just the case a little f up) to them if i need to.

I will post an FAQ of how to put it on your player if you like, I'll try and start this soon.

yes plugins are good they become part of the Build/SVN/CSV in time, you will not use all the pugins, eg video as the m100 only has a one colour screen, and they will have to be made for the m100.

The problem with the mr500 is not the touch screen its the chipset, the m100 has same as another player so a compiler was available but mr500 there is no free compiler available, I don't know if this is still an issue?
