pyro, hope you get the linux sorted.

Me, tho I said I would linux, still not done it. Just a scaredy cat I guess.

On top of which, I've got to reaaalllly like the REMIX function. I get the feeling I'm the only one here that uses it...!....until someone else owns up.

I'm going to pm shirour/cat to see how possible it is in the near future, to have a linux hack that doesn't disturb the usual REMIX mode.

EDI: OK here's text of my query to shirour....

OK, I'm going to try installing linux. My firmware at the moment is 1.03.

1. I'll install the exploited firmware.
2. I'll paste cat's linux upload from this thread post 1 into mrobe drive.

Qs

a. but my user/remix folder has this in it
Image
, no R0000001 folder as Cat said. What should I do? Step by step if you could......
b. General Q: If in future I want to downgrade back to my original 1.03 firmware from this 1.05 exploited fware, has anyone done that, is it possible?

it's in.

http://www.mrobe.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=27811#27811

That's bad news not being able to downgrade. Is this true....that I'll never be able to do REMIX any more from now on ? What about flashing with a 1.05 firmware (original) if there's an upload anywhere, or a 1.06? Is that possible?

It was satisfying getting linux on and I'll play with it for a week or so...(and so alice can see it).

But then I'd really like to have advice about how I can keep switching back to a can-do remix situation.

Regardless I AM happy that I've done it, equally for the overcoming fear bit....- scary.

Will tell of experience in a bit more detail tomorrow.

thanks Syd.

I got the same reply from shirour by email. wooot!

Text of shirour's email reply:

Hi jamelikat.

Building another method for loading linux is of course possible, but currently I don't have time to work on it.
Anyway, you can load the previous unhacked firmware at any time and retrieve your remix functions.

shirour, hi, sorry I've not been in touch for a long time. Hope you're well etc. Thanks for your and cat's dedicated work on linux for mr500. It's giving pleasure to many on the site.

somebody wrote that the opie software cant use the full power of the m:robe...

and thats true!
for example: i have a picture on my robe which was taken with a 5mp camera (ca 2mb)... if i open the picture in the original firmware it only takes about 1/2 second to open it!
but in opie it takes about 5 seconds....
