for unpacking, you need to use 7-zip, as bearcat already said, winrar cant see all the files, but 7-zip does. But i did all the things, and i had the black screen, couple of other peoples did to.

Ironically you recruited me as a daily Engadget reader instead =P I found this site before I bought my 500i (solidified that I would have a good player for many years because of the great community). Ever since you tipped Engadget off on the firmware hack and posted the link, I've been a daily reader of Engadget.

Guess it works both ways ;)

so is there a way to upload these files to the partitioned section of the m:robe hard drive without running linux on the computer?
bearcats guide only explains it if you are doing it via linux.

Bearcat do you think you could add a little more detail to your guide as to how to do it with linux? i just put linux on my computer so i don't know how to use it much yet, and i don't understand your guide where you talk about transfering the files logged in as root.

there is if you have an ext2 read/write program but none of the ones i tried worked

use i live cd DSL is only 50mb
