Run the installer. Once it gets to the point where you actually perform the update, go to c:\Documents and Settings\*your username*\Local Settings\Temp and open the last folder. The BIN file should be contained there or in one of the subfolders. Alternatively, you can open the installer with a program like IZArc or WinRAR and find the BIN somewhere in there.

I went through all of the steps, edited the images a bit and successfully created the new BIN file, but then later found out that it wouldn't let me install the firmware because I already had the same version. Is there any way around that, or any way to downgrade the firmware back to 1.0.2 or whatever version was before the newest?

The way to do this is to edit the "firmup.ini" file. Its extracted when you run the firmup.exe
Just change the "check Version" to like "1.05"

very well done!
i really like this tool.

but this thread made me thinking...
what if there comes a new firmware from olympus with the version 1.04? when you change the check version every time to a higher versionnumber then you couldn't install a new firmware from olympus any more.
am i right? or is the check version thing only for checking and won't be saved on the mrobe?
i know that to 99% there won't be a new firmware but what if... :D (the hope dies at last)

well done and don't stop coding! ;)

don't worry. it is just for the updating script checkup - the version on the player stays 1.03 everytime you update it.

oh noooo!

one off my mrobes got an total crash when i update one picture.

system error
error code : 07EF001F

please push a power switch

there were no errors when i was updateing the firmware. wtf?! is it now totaly damaged?! no harddisk in windows any more. reset heart + mode + play won't work and restarting event not helping...

help!
if there is no help... i'd recommend don't touch the script unless you won't have the same problem :(

PS: changed image 0.jpg, it was a little bit smaller than the old one. used photoshop cs for editing it. now i see a few seconds the m:robe logo and then zapp and the error...

I feel shirour's still working hard on all this, but all the same, maybe someone can distill the problems people have been having. Maybe time for a guide review.

In order to use the firm up to do the refirmware, you must use winRar to make the .exe file extract to a folder. Then you must replace the .bin file. Then execute the firmup.exe file.

I'm suffering from the small image issue as well.

The res is 72 pix/in. At least, according to Photoshop CS2. I made an image of the same res and size and the thing put it in the upper left.
