ok so nothing has worked so far...i used the python thing for the first script you used copied and pasted it as a .py file and excuted it. I typed in DecryptFile and it seemed like it worked But i dont know were the file would be. I guess I just am really confused.

Anyhelp would be great.

the script will work in the directory you've placed it in (that's where all the files will be).
make sure you copy the original BIN file to that directory before using the script.
in anyway,
but you better use the exec file from the site.
there's a step by step guide there too.

Cool, I think it would be cool if we could finally change skins or at least the background colour of the firmware. I'm pretty sure it's just a few 640x480 png's or jpg's. I always wanted to change it to another colour. If someone finds out how to do that, please share, lol.

exactly as you've said. the backgrounds are the jpgs. the first bg is image number 0. decrypt, get it, change its color, update, correct the crc and encrypt the file back.

Wow, great job man! This opens up a lot of possibilities for us, now that the "security system" so to speak, is dealt with. I was able to change the boot logo and my background on the homepage, but for some reason the background is really tiny and in the top left corner... I have no clue why, the file on my computer is the right resolution and size and everything... hmm. After school (where I am right now) I will try updating it again and see if it fixes the size problem by itself. Also, I will attempt at making a GUI for this wonderful script! That will hopefully make it easier for the people who dont like DOS Prompt lol. :)

I can't make any promises though. This is my first attempt ever at making a GUI, lol. This will be a learning experience for me :D Hopefully everything will work out and it will be a success though.

Agree.

Great job on cracking "the code"!

Now where I'd like to see this go...

I don't really care, if my background is a photo of Oprah's a$$, what I really what to do with my m:robe is drag and drop mp3's AND .jpg's without having to convert them. That would be just killer. Somehow the firmware has to be overcome to do that.

I'm am no programming expert, but I hope your good work leads in that direction.

Cheers.

Re_ oprah's @@s, hehhh?? I thought we could already d & drop music & pics into mr500 using alternative software (in Guides section) before shirour's breakthrough.....?? Syncdrop for music and something else (can't remember) for photos.

Anyone, correct me if I'm wrong, because I don't have a 500 and may be wrong.

jamelikat.

I went through all of the steps, edited the images a bit and successfully created the new BIN file, but then later found out that it wouldn't let me install the firmware because I already had the same version. Is there any way around that, or any way to downgrade the firmware back to 1.0.2 or whatever version was before the newest?
